Reading is a way to open our hearts and minds to diverse voices, perspectives, bodies and experiences.
So important to teach our children how diverse we all are! And how amazing it is that there is so many of us and yet we are are all unique, each one of us!
As a teacher for over 30 years, I know how important it is for young people to see themselves in the books they read.
All books are valid and we all need to diversify our reading experiences.
I grew up reading books & always wondered why there weren’t any writers who looked like me. These days we are blessed to have such a rich variety of books to choose from.
We are taking the Read in Color Pledge because as a young ladies who are committed to making the world a better place through confident, courage and character we must start with all of us.. All of us in every diversity and ethnicity that our world has.
