Diversity matters. How else do we know of others’ plights if not for the power of words to transport us to other folks’ lives? Knowledge promotes equity. Ignorance promotes the opposite.
Our historic little city has many Civil War era districts but very little disposable income. Our LFL provides all manner of books to a diverse community of all ages. We keep the shelves stocked but could use more help! 100 degrees-time for A/C and a good book!
So that all people can see themselves in books!
All children should feel represented in the books they read as well able to regularly read about other families and lifestyles.
We need books that show the world. Diversity adds interest and dimension.
