As a school with a diverse student population, it is paramount that the LFL at our site shares diverse books with our students and community. As Dr. Rudine Sims Bishop said “books should be windows and mirrors”. Students need to see themselves and learn about others while engaging in reading.

I learn so much, and want to share.

I want to own a free little library and share diverse childrens books in my community since there is such a big lack of children books

I think it is very important for everyone to expose ourselves to different perspectives & listen to diverse voices. A Beloved Community is where everyones voice matters & is heard. We are all better together.

I am taking the read in color pledge because I believe in the power of representation in every aspect of life, including literature. Every child should be able to see themselves in the characters they read about regardless of their background, ethnicity, culture and traditions.

I live in Minneapolis and want to help keep awareness and learning alive about the lives, writing and views of people of color.

Reading has always been one of the most important parts of my life. My grandaunts 👵🏽👵🏽 only gifted books that were usually graced with a whimsical note. Our love language 📚 Sharing is caring📗

I am a reading teacher and hold multicultural/multilingual masters degree. I want to share my love of reading and diversity with my community. Families and readers of all ages visit our Little Free library. My hope is they read about diverse cultures and experience people beyond Westport.

It’s important for people learn about other cultures to break down the barriers that separate us.
