I wish to promote marginalized people and representation in books. I want my neighbors and walkers who stop at my library to have access to books which they might not have seen or thought possible, books with people of all members of society, positive images.
Bushwick is a working class neighborhood. It’s full of amazing diversity. Our new Little Library is a space of inclusion. Books representing all of us are perfect for welcoming everyone and feeling at home.
Diversity is important
Diversity is extremely important in our world. Everyone needs to see that people are people. There is no reason to discriminate.
Years ago I tried to find a book for the child of one of my Rwandan cyclists it was then I saw how few books there were for children who looked like Jonathan. Representation matters.
