I want to know the stories of people who do not look like me.
I tutored with the Friends Learning in Pairs (FLIP) Volunteer Program in the Nashville, TN public schools the past four years. I appreciated the diverse book titles available for my students of color and wish to offer Read in Color books in my Little Free Library in Wyoming.
When I started teaching in the 80’s there were few books with people of color I started making up stories about my class so my student could see and hear stories about color. I saw how excited it made them to see someone who looked liked them in stories books.
To offer diverse books for our diverse neighborhood .
It is a good feeling when my culture is being represented in books that reflect positivity.
I have worked in an inner city for 27 years !! I have always read in color!!!
Everyone needs an accurate history of our country and access to the wisdom and beauty of African Americans through their stories, art, and literature.
I believe in the importance of all children seeing their culture being related in a positive way in books
Books are a window to the world. It is important to give people resources to experience that world without bias.
