I am a children’s librarian, and our library has made a commitment to diversify our collection. There are so many wonderful books where children can see themselves in the characters and experiences. Children can also walk in the shoes of someone who is different through books!
The world is big and diverse. If you don’t read about peoples unlike yourself, it is you who are impoverished
Black Lives Matter. Education from the beginning steps of reading is what will stop privileged racism.
Equity is the path forward.
Representation matters!
As a father to three young white boys, I want them to grow up as advocates for equity with a diverse perspective on the world. This movement can help bring that to life.
Because I love reading teach it at the elementary level,, and noticed a need for books of all sorts in my community!
