Because diversity matters!
We are all part of life, we are all part of stories, we are important and worth knowing.
Reading books by authors and about characters who are different than me has helped me learn so much about other races, ethnicities, countries, gender identities, etc. These lessons are invaluable to me and I want to preserve access to a diversity of perspectives in books.
I love on a diverse community in a bi racial household. We need diversity in kids books so all can see themselves in the stories and develop a passion for reading!!
Organized bans on books for children and teens that feature and lift up Black/Brown/Queer voices are in full force in our schools and libraries. This LFL will intentionally stock banned and challenged children’s books. We support everyone’s Freedom to Read.
Everyone needs to know they are valid
Our ELCA church is participating in the Reconciling In Christ program and this is a natural extension of that. All are welcome, and books are for everyone!
