As a queer woman of color, I didn’t grow up with books that I felt represented me. I want that to change for upcoming generations, it helps remind us we’re not alone and we’re seen.
All of us are important and all of us should be celebrated. Every child (and adult) needs to see themselves in the stories they are reading.
I believe that all people should be able to see themselves in books and that books teach us about others as well.
I believe that all children should use books as launch points for learning about the world and the people of the world. If we don’t learn the commonalities of cultures we will never come together to celebrate our differences.
Representation matters- in our media, in our leadership, and the books we read. Every story deserves to be shared
