Everyone needs to see themselves and their stories reflected not only in books but in all media.
Our library is at our church and it is in a quite diverse neighborhood. It is a challenge to keep diverse books in our LFL.
It’s important for all to have reading materials that they can relate to and enjoy.
All children need to see themselves in books!
To repair historic harms, honor and amplify BIPOC voices and show active allyship.
It is important to learn about other cultures and reading is a great way to do so. Knowledge of others’ cultures helps gain acceptance and we can learn how to live together in peace and harmony.
Our neighborhood is diverse (part of the do-called “international zone” in albuquerque, and i try to keep it stocked with kids and grownup books in spanish and english and books about anti-racist themes, etc mixed in
